Business management has been my lifetime career, first in retail at F.W. Woolworth until they ordered me to a store outside of Marin at which time I quit and managed Lights of Rafael. Then came my first attempt at owning a small business. I designed, manufactured and tried to sell a line of planter lights (a lost cultural phenomenon of the 1970’s). Tip: Never invest in a lighting business until you have U.L. approval.
At this point I decided to manage a real estate office. To my disappointment, the owner of the company I chose insisted that I sell for a few years first (smart man). I immersed myself into listing For-Sale-By-Owners, became the top producing agent in my office after 2 years and, 2 years later opened Bank Street Realtors – that was 1980, the beginning of one of the worst recessions in history. After 2 years of prohibitive interest rates and diminishing funds, I decided that I was better suited managing other people’s businesses. Thus began a 30 year career of managing real estate offices and supporting real estate salespeople – 30 years so far. My long and fruitful journey has now culminated at Alain Pinel Realtors where I manage Marin County, a fledgling operation born in 2009 and growing by leaps and bounds.
How would I describe our offices? They are warm, supportive, happy, positive and an absolutely wonderful place to spend each day – each week day, I do have a wife, two lovely daughters, and a Golden Retriever that fill my weekends.
My passion is creating a working and learning environment where our agents can achieve their dreams, whatever they might be. Seeing them prosper and thrive is how I get my kicks. Outside of business, I love being with my family, playing with my dog, hiking, gardening and writing. I’ve written two books: one a medieval saga that teaches communication skills, and the other a mystery where the main character is a real estate manager/former S.F. cop. My wife and I both love the mountains, a passion that drove us to purchase a home in Mt. Shasta a few years ago. A vacation home now, it is where we will retire one day when this current saga is complete.
